Hi everyone. My name is Sara and I've been recently dianosed with RA at the age of 33. Since my diagnosis in October 2011 I have been trying to put in a claim for Critical Illness as my husband and I have a policy with Friends Life. Even though RA is an illness that the company will cover they are refusing to pay out on the basis that I am not chronic enough for their criteria. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who may have gone through anything similar and if they were successful.

Thanks

Hi Sara

Welcome to the forum but sorry that you have been diagnosed with RA at such a young age.
I personally have had no experience of trying to claim critical illness but I do know that they try to get out of paying at every turn. Could you get help from your GP. Also the NRAS helpline may be able to offer some advice.
Also there may well be someone on the forum who has some experience of this. Either way you will find the forum a very valuable source of advice encouragement and friendship.

Best Wishes

Sue

Hiya Sara ,

my thoughts are with you , it might be you need a solicitor( , and even if you qualify for legal aid it is doubtful this is covered . Also is RA one of the named conditions as in your contract ?
Might be worth having a look at House / contents / insurance to see if you have cover for legal help ( if it is a different company)

Read your terms of the contract and the insurance companies definitions .. had a look at their website and it only covers specific illnesses RA (except systemic lupus erythemotosis with sever complications.)
Have a look and see if that is the cover you have here . However it does also state that you need to tell them of any change of health , which you have done now .
If you are adamant your contract as taken out states that RA is covered then seek professional advice and stick to your guns.

Sorry it is not what you wanted to hear:(
